This Blueberry Lemonade is the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day! Made with fresh blueberries and tart lemons, it’s a delightful summer beverage that’s perfect for parties or just to keep the fridge stocked with thirst-quenching goodness.
I can’t get enough blueberries when they are in season! Blueberry Pie, Blueberry Peach Crisp, Blueberry Salad Dressing, Blueberry Ice Cream, or just by the handful. This is another great way to enjoy them if you buy them by the boatloads like I do.
Tart lemons paired with fresh and juicy blueberries come together to create the perfect summer drink. Add a little bit of sugar and you’re in business! Blueberry lemonade is a fantastic summertime drink, especially when blueberries are in season.
Lemonade is a must-have beverage for an afternoon by the pool or a relaxing day on the patio. With this simple upgrade to a classic summertime recipe, your blueberry lemonade will stand out at any gathering, while also tasting delicious.

Key Ingredients
- Lemons – Fresh is best! Squeeze those lemons yourself. A citrus press works fantastically to get every drop of juice out and keep the seeds out.
- Sugar – It’s necessary because lemons are so tart. We’ll be making a simple syrup with this, and you can certainly substitute honey, or a stevia based sweetener, such as Swerve.
- Blueberries – You’ll use these with sugar and water to make a syrup. They are in season in July and August, but you can usually find them year round at the grocery store. They will taste better during peak season. You can also use frozen blueberries, which are typically frozen during peak freshness.
The richness of fresh, sweet blueberry flavor paired with citrus will awaken your senses.
How to Make Blueberry Lemonade

- Make the Simple Syrup. The recipe card walks you through the steps, if you’d like to see step by step pictures for that part of the recipe, then check out the Blueberry Simple Syrup Post.
- Juice the lemons. As I mentioned earlier, a citrus press is your best friend here. You’ll need 1 cup of juice, which is usually about 6-8 lemons.
- Add the syrup, lemon juice, and cold water to a pitcher or carafe and stir well. Chill until ready to serve. Serve over ice.
Expert Tips
- Get fancy and garnish! If you want to make your drink extra special, use fresh blueberries, and a few slices of lemon, or even a sprig of mint. You can add the blueberries right to the drink, or put thread them on a cocktail spear. You’ll want to add an extra lemon and/or blueberries to your shopping list.
- Roll the citrus. Roll the lemons under your palm on the counter top back and forth a few times with a little pressure before juicing them. This loosens them up and releases more juice.
- The amount of lemons needed depends on the size and juiciness of your lemons. It can take 6-8 lemons to get 1 cup of juice.
- Make popsicles. The only thing better than a glass of blueberry lemonade is a blueberry lemonade popsicle! Pour the lemonade into molds and freeze. YUM!
Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t recommend it as it has preservatives and added ingredients. It also doesn’t taste very fresh, and since this is a from-scratch recipe, fresh lemons are the best option.
Any type will work with this recipe. Choose berries that are firm and ripe. If they are underripe, they will be tart, not sweet.
Storing
It’ll keep in the refrigerator for up to a week, so feel free to make it ahead of time for Graduation open houses, Memorial day, backyard barbecues, or Fourth of July!

Blueberry Lemonade
Equipment
- 1 pitcher or carafe
- 1 citrus press optional, makes juicing the lemons a breeze.
- 1 small sauce pan for making the simple syrup in.
- 1 wooden spoon
Ingredients
- 6-8 lemons
- 1 cup blueberries
- 5 cups water divided
- 1 cup sugar
- Lemon slices and additional blueberries for serving optional
Instructions
- Heat 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved
- Add 1 cup blueberries, bring to a boil and then turn back to a simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Strain syrup through a fine mesh sieve.
- Set aside to cool
- Squeeze lemons until you have 1 cup juice.
- Once syrup is cooled, place it in a pitcher and add lemon juice.
- Add 4 cups cold water.
- To serve, add ice to each glass, pour lemonade, and garnish with a lemon slice and/or blueberries.
